Vees make hay on power play, rack up four man-advantage goals in Game 4
Wednesday, April 25, 2012 - Submitted by BCHL Media
A quick pair of second-period power-play goals, two of four on the night for the Penticton Vees, proved to be all the scoring the BCHL team needed in a 6-1 Game 4 win that put them up three games to one on the Brooks Bandits in the Doyle Cup

A scoreless first period saw the Vees outshoot the Bandits 11-3 with Brooks goalie Jan Obernesser making several big saves including one on a Travis St. Denis breakaway when he had been sprung loose after serving a penalty

With Anthony Petruzzelli serving a slashing penalty, Joey Benik broke the ice at 4:56 of the second and Mario Lucia followed 1:03 later with another power-play goal that would hold up to be the winner.

Brooks got within one early in the third as Mark Reners converted a power-play goal of his own with assists from Dakota Mason and David Watt. But 1:33 after that, Lucia scored his second of the night to restore the Vees' multi-goal lead.

A goal from Ryan Reilly after a super effort by Troy Stecher all but sealed it though Mike Reilly and Logan Johnston scored the Vees third and fourth power-play goals 1:19 apart to round out the scoring for the Vees.

Michael Garteig made 20 saves for the win.

Penticton can punch their ticket to the RBC Cup with one more win. Game 5 goes Friday at 7 p.m. at South Okanagan Events Centre.
