BCHL Royal Bank Cup History
The BCHL leads all of the CJAHL with nine (9 of 26) National Championships. Penticton became the first BC team to win a National Jr. A Championship in 1986 and Vernon is the only BC club to win more than once with four Canadian titles in 1990, 1991, 1996 & 1999. (Prince Albert is the only other team that has won four times). Since 1983 the BCHL has not gone more than a single season without representation at the RBC/Centennial Cup.
The 2008 RBC Royal Bank Cup will take place in Cornwall Ontario before returning to BC in 2009. Victoria will host the 2009 tournament joining Prince George, Nanaimo and Vernon as the only BC cities to host a Junior A National championship.
The Royal Bank Cup was first presented in 1996 to the BCHL's Vernon Vipers as they defeated the runner up Melfort Mustangs of the SJHL. Prior to 1996, the winners were awarded the Centennial Cup.
